Few places in the world offer the possibility of combining true wild quail hunting with world-class technical fly fishing in a single experience. Arroyo Pescado, located on a 12,000-hectare private estancia in the heart of Patagonia, delivers just that.
During the fall season — from mid-March through April — our valley comes alive with coveys of California quail and brown trout in peak condition. Guests can enjoy this unique "cast and blast" experience from a single base, without having to compromise on the quality of either pursuit.
California quail were introduced in the region over five decades ago, and thanks to the absence of natural predators and ideal habitat, they have flourished in the native grasslands and forest edges of the estancia. These are wild, fast, and challenging birds — not preserve-raised — making each flush and each shot an authentic experience.
Our team of professional guides and trained pointers scout and rotate circuits across the property to ensure productive, low-pressure hunts. Hunters can expect four to ten coveys per day, with covey sizes ranging from 20 to 100 birds. On a good day, a skilled shooter might bag up to 15 birds, with plenty of fast-paced action and excitement along the way.
Expect to walk two to five miles daily over easy to moderate terrain. Physical fitness, good shooting, and an appreciation for the landscape are key to fully enjoying this hunt.
Arroyo Pescado is also known for its spring creek fly fishing, offering challenging sight-fishing for brown trout in crystal-clear waters. With technical presentations, stealth, and finesse required, it’s a fly fisher’s paradise.
In the fall, water levels drop and clarity improves, creating ideal conditions for dry fly and small nymph fishing. Anglers can fish right outside the lodge or explore over 14 kilometers of private water including the namesake creek and stretches of the Tecka River — all surrounded by wild Patagonian scenery.
You’ll be guided by experienced professionals who know every bend of the creek and are passionate about both fishing and teaching.
Our Cast & Blast program is flexible. Guests can choose to focus on quail hunting in the morning and fish in the afternoon, alternate full days, or lean more heavily toward one activity — depending on weather, preferences, and energy levels. Both activities are based from the lodge, minimizing travel and maximizing time outdoors.
We offer high-quality Pigeon 20 & 28-gauge shotguns for rent and have shells available for purchase. Hunters are welcome to bring their own guns, though prior coordination is needed for permits. Fly fishing gear is also available on request, though we recommend guests bring their preferred rods and waders suited for spring creek fishing (3 to 5 weight rods, 10–12 ft leaders, stealthy approach).
We provide orange hats, safety vests, and all safety briefings. Guests should bring field pants or chaps, durable boots, and clothing suited for cool autumn weather.
This exclusive program is offered only during the fall season, from March 15th through May 1st, and is limited to small groups to maintain quality and privacy. Whether you're an experienced sportsman or new to either pursuit, Arroyo Pescado offers a rich, immersive experience in one of the most beautiful and private settings in Patagonia.
